But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [2532] that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and [2532] became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and [2532] he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Through faith also [2532] Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and [2532] was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Therefore sprang there even [2532] of one, and [2532] him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and [2532] as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and [2532] were persuaded of them, and [2532] embraced them, and [2532] confessed that they were strangers and [2532] pilgrims on the earth.

And [2532] truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

And others had trial of cruel mockings and [2532] scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and [2532] imprisonment :

(Of whom the world was not worthy :) they wandered in deserts, and [2532] in mountains, and [2532] in dens and [2532] caves of the earth.

And [2532] these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise :

Wherefore seeing we also [2532] are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and [2532] the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Looking unto Jesus the author and [2532] finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

And [2532] ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him :

But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and [2532] not sons.

Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and [2532] we gave them reverence : shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and [2532] live?

Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and [2532] the feeble knees;

And [2532] make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

Follow peace with all men, and [2532] holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord :

|
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and [2532] thereby many be defiled;

For ye know how that afterward [2532], when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected : for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and [2532] that burned with fire, nor [2532] unto blackness, and [2532] darkness, and [2532] tempest,

And [2532] the sound of a trumpet, and [2532] the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more :

And [2532] so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and [2532] quake :)

But ye are come unto mount Sion, and [2532] unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and [2532] to an innumerable company of angels,

To the general assembly and [2532] church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and [2532] to God the Judge of all, and [2532] to the spirits of just men made perfect,

And [2532] to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and [2532] to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Whose voice then shook the earth : but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also [2532] heaven.

Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and [2532] godly fear :

But to do good and [2532] to communicate forget not : for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and [2532] continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Pure religion and [2532] undefiled before God and [2532] the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and [2532] widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also [2532] a poor man in vile raiment;

And [2532] ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and [2532] say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and [2532] say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool :

Are ye not then [2532] partial in yourselves, and [2532] are become judges of evil thoughts?

Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and [2532] heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and [2532] draw you before the judgment seats?

For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also [2532], Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and [2532] mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

If a brother or sister be naked, and [2532] destitute of daily food,

And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and [2532] filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

Even [2532] so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well : the devils also [2532] believe, and [2532] tremble.

Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and [2532] by works was faith made perfect?

And [2532] the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and [2532] it was imputed unto him for righteousness : and [2532] he was called the Friend of God.

Even [2532] so the tongue is a little member, and [2532] boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

And [2532] the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity : so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and [2532] setteth on fire the course of nature; and [2532] it is set on fire of hell.

For every kind of beasts, and [2532] of birds, and of serpents, and [2532] of things in the sea, is tamed, and [2532] hath been tamed of mankind :

Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and [2532] fresh.

Who is a wise man and [2532] endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

But if ye have bitter envying and [2532] strife in your hearts, glory not, and [2532] lie not against the truth.

For where envying and [2532] strife is, there is confusion and [2532] every evil work.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and [2532] good fruits, without partiality, and [2532] without hypocrisy.
