ISRAEL AVENGED OF HER FOES, AND RESTORED, FIRST TO INWARD HOLINESS, THEN TO OUTWARD PROSPERITY. (Eze. 36:1-38)
mountains of Israel--in contrast to "Mount Seir" of the previous prophecy. They are here personified; Israel's elevation is moral, not merely physical, as Edom's. Her hills are "the everlasting hills" of Jacob's prophecy (Gen 49:26). "The enemy" (Edom, the singled-out representative of all God's foes), with a shout of exultation, "Aha!" had claimed, as the nearest kinsman of Israel (the brother of their father Esau), his vacated inheritance; as much as to say, the so-called "everlasting" inheritance of Israel and of the "hills," which typified the unmoved perpetuity of it (Psa 125:1-2), has come to an end, in spite of the promise of God, and has become "ours" (compare Deu 32:13; Deu 33:15). |

(2) of the people (Eze 36:16-37); (Eze 36:28).
(3) judgment on Israel's enemies. (Eze 38:1-39); (Eze 38:24). Afterward follows that which concerns the worship of Jehovah that He may dwell amongst His people. |

18 Wherefore I poured [08210] my fury [02534] upon them for the blood [01818] that they had shed [08210] upon the land [0776], and for their idols [01544] wherewith they had polluted [02930] it:
19 And I scattered [06327] them among the heathen [01471], and they were dispersed [02219] through the countries [0776]: according to their way [01870] and according to their doings [05949] I judged [08199] them.

23 And I will sanctify [06942] my great [01419] name [08034], which was profaned [02490] among the heathen [01471], which ye have profaned [02490] in the midst [08432] of them; and the heathen [01471] shall know [03045] that I am the LORD [03068], saith [05002] the Lord [0136] GOD [03069], when I shall be sanctified [06942] in you before their eyes [05869].
24 For I will take [03947] you from among [04480] the heathen [01471], and gather [06908] you out of all countries [0776], and will bring [0935] you into your own land [0127].
25 Then will I sprinkle [02236] clean [02889] water [04325] upon you, and ye shall be clean [02891]: from all your filthiness [02932], and from all your idols [01544], will I cleanse [02891] you.
26 A new [02319] heart [03820] also will I give [05414] you, and a new [02319] spirit [07307] will I put [05414] within [07130] you: and I will take away [05493] the stony [068] heart [03820] out of your flesh [01320], and I will give [05414] you an heart [03820] of flesh [01320].
27 And I will put [05414] my spirit [07307] within [07130] you, and cause [06213] you to walk [03212] in my statutes [02706], and ye shall keep [08104] my judgments [04941], and do [06213] them.
28 And ye shall dwell [03427] in the land [0776] that I gave [05414] to your fathers [01]; and ye shall be my people [05971], and I will be your God [0430].

9 For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn [06437] unto you, and ye shall be tilled [05647] and sown [02232]:
